Good But Not Great Friday, September 18, 2026 Reviewer: Steve McKibben from Elk Grove, CA United States   In actual operation, the MiniMax tug works as advertised. However, it is not entirely user-friendly. I needed a tug to move my airplane at remote airports. This requires separating the tug head from the tug handle using a 10mm wrench (not included) to loosen the stainless steel compression clamp that holds the parts together. This would be much easier if an adjustable single-lever compression clamp (think bicycle seat post) was provided.  To re-assemble the tug, you must insert the tug handle into the tug head while trying to align the drive shaft connections inside each.  There is no bushing or guide to align the drive shaft so it usually takes a few tries to get the parts together. Then, you have to hold everything in proper alignment while wrenching tight the compression clamp. Doing this takes time and, because the tug weighs 25 lbs, some effort. The tug is beautifully designed and well-made. For the price, the MiniMax people should address these shortcomings. Was this review helpful to you?

mini max Bonanza A36 Tug Tuesday, August 11, 2026 Reviewer: Amber Brown from Hartsville, SC United States   tug works on flat ground and slight incline well.  I have to push my plane from the asphalt to the concrete across a 1" concrete lip.  The tug will not push it accross this lip.  I found that I have to get a good rolling start as fast as the tug will go and angle the plane so only one wheel at a time crosses the concrete lip.  It works, But not ideal. Does what I need Wednesday, September 27, 2023 Reviewer: Allen from Texas, United States   I was worried about not pressing down hard enough and having slippage of the friction drive against my tire, but that has not happened.   Perhaps because the unit weighs so much.   The structural parts appear to be made our of steel, rather than something lighter like aluminum  or carbon fiber... but this helps keep cost down, $ has the benefit of pressing down on my front tire even when I get distracted.  So, like all engineered products, it is a matter of tradeoffs.   It's not as compact as some other units, and the hose clamps that need to be removed to break the unit down into a more compact form for travel do not have thumbscrews, so tools are needed to do this, but not many, and it can be done relatively quickly.   Or I can lay it with the drive in the baggage compartment, and the rest of it sticking forward between the rear seats of my 4- place Bonanza. I find it has plenty of torque & battery life, works well, and is a fair price.  I am satisfied. Was this review helpful to you?
